Stars' love for "Valentine's Day"
26 June 2009
Three more stars have fallen in love with the script of rom com "Valentine‘s Day", in the form of Topher Grace ("Spider–Man 3"), Emma Roberts ("Wild Child" and Hector Elizondo ("Grey‘s Anatomy").

The trio will join Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Biel in five interconnecting stories about love on the big day in LA.

Topher Grace will play Hathaway‘s love interest; Elizondo will play the husband of Shirley MacLaine; while Roberts will play a teen desperate to lose her virginity to her boyfriend.

Roberts leads the way in all-star "Valentine's Day"

Veteran rom–com director Garry Marshall clearly has still got the pulling power when it comes to assembling a top notch, if somewhat saccharine, cast. It looks as if "Valentine‘s Day" is going to be an all–star affair with the likes of Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Shirley MacLaine, Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher signing up for New Line‘s latest love–in.

The Hollywood Reporter was first on the scene here and is describing "Valentine‘s Day" as something of a curio – a rom–com which has five slightly interconnecting stories playing out during the smultzy holiday in Los Angeles.

Roberts, as unlikely as this sounds, will play an army officer on leave from Iraq on a flight to L.A. Meanwhile Kutcher will be in all kinds of trouble as a flower shop owner who proposes to his girlfriend (Alba) only to realise that he is in fact smitten with his best friend (Garner).

MacLaine plays Roberts‘ mother, a happy retiree who reveals to her husband a long–ago affair. Hathaway is an assistant working at the biggest talent agency in town and dating a mailroom assistant; while Biel is a publicist unlucky in love who has no date on Valentine‘s Day – something we find particularly hard to believe.

Garry Marshall celebrates "Valentine's Day"

Garry Marshall does like a romantic comedy. The man behind the seminal "Pretty Woman" and, the not–so–seminal, "The Princess Diaries" has plucked his next project out of the cinematic ether in the form of "Valentine‘s Day". And no. This one is not a direct follow on to the hack and slash thrills of "My Bloody Valentine 3D" but rather a by–the–numbers rom–com about 10 people in LA putting themselves through the emotional obstacle course of Valentine‘s Day.

Based on a screenplay by Katherine Fugat and rewritten by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, writers of this Friday‘s release "He‘s Just Not That Into You", the film is being fast tracked with hopes for a release on Valentine‘s Day 2010. I, for one, did not see that coming.
